The central cabinet has finally allocated the 4G and 5G spectrum to the government-owned telecommunication company BSNL. Now, the anticipation is building for the launch of the company’s 4G/5G services. It is expected that BSNL will pose a challenge to private companies like Reliance Jio and Airtel.
Details of BSNL’s 4G and 5G spectrum allocation
A press release has been issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) regarding the allocation. According to the press note, BSNL has been allotted a total of ₹89,047 crores. After receiving the new package, BSNL’s authorized capital will increase from ₹1,50,000 crores to ₹2,10,000 crores.

In the 700 MHz band, 22 LSAs have been allocated with 10 MHz at a cost of ₹46,338.60 crores. In the 3300 MHz band, 22 LSAs have been allocated with 70 MHz at a cost of ₹26,184.20 crores. In the 26 GHz band, 21 LSAs have been allocated with 800 MHz and 1 LSA with 650 MHz at a cost of ₹6,564.93 crores. In the 2500 MHz band, 6 LSAs have been allocated with 20 MHz and 2 LSAs with 10 MHz at a cost of ₹9,428.620 crores.

BSNL 4G and 5G services could go live soon
With the acquisition of the spectrum, it is expected that BSNL’s 4G and 5G services will go live soon. This move by the government will provide stiff competition to private companies in the telecom market. It is worth noting that due to the lack of high-speed telecommunications services, BSNL has been losing its customer base for some time.
