In a significant announcement on Saturday, June 10, Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), declared major changes within his party. He appointed Praful Patel and his daughter Supriya Sule as the new working presidents of the party. This move by the senior statesman Sharad Pawar is seen as a generational shift within the party. However, it is also perceived as sidelining his nephew Ajit Pawar, who is known for his rebellious nature.
Sharad Pawar made this announcement on the occasion of the completion of 25 years of the formation of the NCP. During the announcement, the senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar was also present. It should be noted that Sharad Pawar and Tariq Anwar together founded the NCP party in 1999.

Pawar, in the presence of Ajit Pawar, Chhagan Bhujbal, Sunil Tatkare, Fauzia Khan, and other senior party leaders, stated, “Praful Patel will take charge as the executive president of the Nationalist Congress Party. Supriya Sule will also serve as the executive president of the party.”
According to a PTI report, after Sharad Pawar’s announcement, Ajit Pawar appeared to be upset and left the party office without speaking to the media.
In 2019, Ajit Pawar had shocked everyone when he joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and took the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister in the early morning, while Devendra Fadnavis took the oath as the Chief Minister.
Praful Patel expressed his happiness with Pawar’s announcement and stated that he will continue to work to strengthen the party. He said, “I have been working with Pawar Sir since 1999. So, it’s not something new for me. I am happy to be promoted as the executive president. I will continue to work to strengthen the party.”
Along with this announcement, Sharad Pawar appointed Praful Patel as the party in-charge of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Goa, and the Rajya Sabha. Similarly, Supriya Sule has been appointed as the party in-charge of Maharashtra.
