FM Nirmala Sitharaman’s daughter Parakala Vangamayi tied the knot with Pratik Doshi in a simple ceremony in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, on Thursday, June 8. The news of the wedding surfaced after a clip of the modest ceremony went viral on social media. In the viral video, Sitharaman can be seen standing behind her daughter as Hindu priests from the Adamaru Math performed the rituals according to Vedic traditions. Since then, people have been trying to find out who the Finance Minister’s son-in-law is.
Who is Pratik Doshi?
Pratik Doshi is an officer in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He is reportedly a close associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Originally hailing from Gujarat, he is currently serving as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the PMO, holding the position of Joint Secretary responsible for research and strategy. He was promoted to the rank of Joint Secretary in June 2019. Prior to his stint in the PMO, Pratik had worked as a research assistant in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Gujarat. This was during the time when PM Modi was the Chief Minister of the state.

Until September last year, Doshi held the position of Level 14 officer in the PMO, which placed him in the Band Pay Scale. According to the official website of the PMO, his monthly basic salary was ₹1,57,600. After Narendra Modi was re-elected as Prime Minister in June 2019, he was promoted to the position of Joint Secretary, after having joined the PMO in 2014 following his move to Delhi.

The Finance Minister’s son-in-law is a graduate of the Singapore Management School. Pratik is known to keep a low profile and is not active on social media, similar to his wife Vangamayi, who prefers to stay away from the public eye. Parakala is a multimedia journalist and currently works as a feature writer in Mint Lounge. She was previously associated with The Hindu newspaper. She holds a Master’s degree from the English department of Delhi University and later pursued a master’s degree in journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Her work has been published in several Indian and international media outlets. The wedding of Vangamayi and Doshi was attended by close family members and friends. It has been reported that no political leaders were invited to the wedding.
